Dr. Maheshwari has many accolades to his name and is a recipient of eminent recognitions including the prestigious President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Gallantry and Police Medal for Meritorious Service. As the Head of CRPF, he was also felicitated by the President of India on behalf of ECI for excellence in security management. He's also a proud recipient of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Award for his book, "Communalism - Handled with a Difference".

'President’s Medal for Distinguished Service

Awarded to officers in the Police, Central Armed Police Forces, Fire, Civil Defence, Home Guard, and Correctional Services for a specially distinguished record of service.

 

It recognizes exceptional leadership, organization, and dedication, especially in challenging circumstances or during major law and order situations.

 

This medal is a prestigious service honor, distinct from gallantry or meritorious service awards.

Police Medal for Gallantry:

The Police Medal for Gallantry honors members of the Indian police and security forces for acts of conspicuous bravery in saving lives, protecting property, or preventing crime.

 

It recognizes exceptional courage in the line of duty, regardless of rank or service length. The President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) is a higher distinction for extraordinary valor.

 

This medal stands apart from long-service awards like the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Antrik Suraksha Padak

The Antrik Suraksha Padak (Internal Security Service Medal) honors police and security personnel for their operational service in internal security duties across areas affected by insurgency and extremism, including Jammu & Kashmir, the North-East, and LWE (Left-Wing Extremism) regions.

Personnel become eligible after two years of continuous service in such areas, with a bar awarded for each additional two years. The medal recognizes their dedication, endurance, and contribution toward maintaining peace and stability in challenging environments.

CRPF Decorations for Operational and Administrative Excellence

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) honors its personnel for exceptional bravery, leadership, and dedicated service through a range of gallantry and administrative awards.

These medals recognize exceptional performance in counterterrorism, law enforcement, or other challenging operational environments specific to the region.​

Such honors include Gallantry Medals (GM), President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and Medal for Meritorious Service, which acknowledge acts like saving lives, combating threats, or ensuring public safety in complex scenarios. Jammu & Kashmir Police and central armed forces frequently receive a significant share of these national awards due to the operational intensity and risks involved in the region.​

The awards are publicly conferred, especially on national occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day, reflecting national recognition of courage, operational leadership, or sacrifice by individuals or units in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant Award for publication on professional matters

The Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant Award is a national-level honor presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, to recognize outstanding research and publications on policing, law enforcement, criminology, and internal security.

Open to serving or retired police personnel and scholars, it rewards original contributions such as books, research papers, or analytical articles that enhance professional policing and public order management.

Named after Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, India’s former Home Minister, the award includes a cash prize and citation and promotes innovation, professionalism, and academic excellence within police services.

Kathin Sewa Padak (NE)

The Kathin Sewa Padak (North East) is a service medal awarded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, to honor exceptional dedication and endurance by personnel serving in the challenging and high-risk conditions of the North-Eastern region.

Eligibility:
Granted to members of the CAPFs and CPOs such as CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, and SSB for service in difficult terrains, insurgency zones, and adverse climates.

Purpose:
To recognize long and tough service under demanding conditions and to motivate personnel serving in remote and sensitive areas.

This is a service recognition medal, distinct from gallantry or bravery awards.

Kathin Sewa Padak (J&K)

The Kathin Sewa Padak (Jammu & Kashmir) is a service medal awarded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, to recognize exceptional devotion, endurance, and performance under challenging service conditions in Jammu & Kashmir.

Eligibility:
Awarded to personnel of the CAPFs and CPOs such as CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, and SSB for long and tough service in hostile or high-risk environments, including counter-terrorism operations and extreme terrain or weather.

Purpose:
To honor and motivate personnel serving in one of India’s most demanding regions, acknowledging their resilience, dedication, and commitment to maintaining peace and security.

This is a service recognition medal, not a gallantry award.
