In service cadre of U.P, he served as Police Chief of Moradabad City, districts of Banda, Bijnore, Bahraich, Allahabad, Kanpur and Gorakhpur besides intermittent assignments in State Intelligence, CID, Economic Offences Wing & Police Training Directorate. At senior ranks, he headed the Human Rights, Law & Order and Vigilance wings of the State of Uttar Pradesh.

CRPF brought the operational experience in handling insurgency in lower Assam and terrorism in Kashmir Valley. At the Force Headquarters, he served as the head of Administration as well as Operations Directorate.  

In his tenure with the Border Security Force, he mentored the new entrants to the Force as Gazetted officers at the BSF Academy, Tekanpur while also providing functional leadership to six other national level institutions and bodies of BSF dealing with Motor Transport, K-9, non-lethal Weapons & munitions, weapon parts manufacturing, Disaster management in Engineering Colleges. He then rose to hold the post of Special DG Operations dealing with Pakistan and Bangladesh Borders.  

During his tenure as DG - BPR&D, he brought a new experience in Research and Development, setting standards of delivery of police services, capacity building, modernisation, collaboration with industry and academicians, including IITs, IIMs and various universities. He integrated with NGOs dealing with special issues of crime against children & women, human trafficking, correctional home management, police behaviour, traffic management, expeditious justice and forensic issues besides few others.

He was then handed the reins of the largest paramilitary force in the world- the Central Reserve Police Force. With the motto of Service and Loyalty, CRPF has the honour of being the designated counter insurgency Force at National level, serving the Nation with complete Commitment and humility with its 3.25 lac warriors, spread over 1600 bases across the country in every corner. It also has dedicated public order management wing (RAF) and jungle warfare Force (CoBRA) besides disaster management units and women warrior battalion with over 2200 gallant sacrifices. It has helped normalise the conflict grid in J&K, Punjab, LWE affected areas, North-Eastern states besides many other segments of the country witnessing sporadic violence. The saga of bravery endorsed by the nation with over 2000 decorations for gallantry. CRPF is the people friendly force acceptable across all the states.
